What photos and videos a restaurant needs for delivery and social

Updated October 4, 2026

A restaurant needs two kinds of content. For delivery apps, clean, accurate photos of every dish and very short videos that work without sound. For social media, content with people, process and atmosphere: the kitchen, the team, the venue. All of it can be produced in a single day if it is well planned.

On delivery apps, the decision takes a second

On a delivery app, customers swipe past dozens of restaurants and dishes in seconds. What makes them stop is the photo. Clarity rules here: every dish well lit, framed the same way as the others so the menu looks tidy, with true colours and no tricks that disappoint when the box is opened. Simple backgrounds and framing that shows the real portion size work well. Videos, if the app supports them, must be very short, a few seconds, and work without sound: cheese stretching, sauce pouring, bread breaking.

Product photos that make people hungry

Food photography has its own rules. Light must bring out texture: crunch, the shine of a sauce, steam. The dish is plated for the camera, which is not always how it is served, and photographed at the right moment, before it cools or dries. Styling (tableware, surfaces, ingredients around it) conveys the type of cuisine without stealing the spotlight from the dish. And editing should improve without faking: what is in the photo is what the customer will receive. That balance is what turns a photo into an order.

On social media, people and process are what hook

Social media asks for something else. Beyond the finished dish, it works to show how it is made: dough being stretched, the fire, the cook's hands, the team prepping for service, the venue full on a Friday night. That content gives personality and makes people want to come, not just order. Short vertical videos with rhythm and music are the format with the most reach today, and they should be shot in the right format from the start, as we explain in which aspect ratio to use for social video.

A real example: Dr. Pizza and its Glovo campaign

For Dr. Pizza in Barcelona we handled the restaurant's full image: brand, monthly social media management and campaigns. For its collaboration with Glovo we produced food photography of each product, videos under ten seconds built for fast scrolling in delivery apps and promotional content for the campaign. The project yielded more than sixty product photos and fifteen social videos. The key was preparing the whole menu to be shot in order, with the lighting set up once, and using the same dishes to film video.

How to produce it all in one day

The efficient approach is one well-planned day: a fixed list of dishes, the kitchen ready to send them out in order, a corner with lighting set up for product photos and another crew filming process and atmosphere. That gives material for the app, the website and several weeks of social posts, an idea we develop in how to turn one shoot day into a month of content. At Bostak Films we create photos, videos and social media content for restaurants and businesses in Barcelona and the surrounding area. If your menu does not shine on the apps, let us start there.

FAQ

What photos and videos does a restaurant need for delivery apps and social media?

For apps, clean and accurate photos of every dish with consistent framing, and few-second videos that work without sound. For social media, content with people, process and atmosphere. It can all come from one well-planned day.

How often should a restaurant update its photos?

When the menu changes, when a new dish arrives or when the photos no longer match what is served. For social media, it is best to produce new content regularly, for example monthly or seasonally.

Can phone photos be used on delivery apps?

They can, but it shows next to competitors. A professional photo with good light and styling usually makes the dish look more appetising and the menu more cared for.
