What a campaign with a creative agency looks like, from idea to spot
Updated October 2, 2026
A campaign with a creative agency goes through five stages: the brief, where the goal is set; the concept, where the idea is born; pre-production, where the shoot is prepared; production and editing, where pieces are shot and cut; and launch, where they are adapted to each channel. Your role matters most at the start and in reviews.
Brief: what we want to achieve and with whom
Everything starts with a conversation about the goal, not the video. What is happening with the brand, who we want to reach, what that person should think or do after seeing the campaign and where they will see it. It also covers what cannot change: the logo, the tone, legal messages, dates. The more concrete this starting point, the better everything that follows. If you have never written one, how to write a good video brief explains what to include. A good brief fits on one page and answers one question: what has to change thanks to this campaign.
Concept: the idea that ties it together
With the brief, the creative team looks for the campaign's central idea: a line, a situation or a visual world that can be told across several pieces without losing coherence. Usually two or three routes are presented with references, tone and a first script, and the brand picks one or blends them. This is the cheapest stage to change your mind: changing an idea on paper costs a meeting; changing it mid-shoot costs much more. So it pays not to rush here. The chosen idea is developed into scripts for each piece and, if the campaign needs it, a full visual treatment.
Pre-production: preparing the shoot in detail
It is the least visible stage and the one that most decides the result. Locations are scouted, casting is done, art direction is prepared (wardrobe, props, sets), filming permits are requested, the shooting plan is written shot by shot and the crew is organised. Everything is presented to the brand before filming, so there are no surprises on the day. In a multi-piece campaign, this is also where you decide how to use each shoot day to capture extra material: short versions, stills and social content from the same shoot.
Production and editing
The shoot is the most visible part, but with good pre-production it is the calmest: the plan is written and everyone knows their job. Then comes the edit, with a first cut the brand reviews, a round of changes and the finishing: colour, sound, music, graphics and subtitles. A real example: for the launch of La Bunker, the anti-theft backpack brand from BCNapiedecalle, we handled strategy, art direction, shooting on Barcelona locations and editing three spots of different lengths that share the same urban world.
Launch and adaptation to each channel
A campaign does not end when the spot is exported. Each channel wants its own format: horizontal for web and YouTube, vertical for Reels and TikTok, few-second cuts for ads. Versions, subtitles and thumbnails are prepared, and it is worth checking early results to decide which piece to push. At Bostak Films we stay with the brand through every stage, from brief to launch, with the same team that comes up with the idea and shoots it. If you have a campaign in mind, our creative agency in Barcelona page explains how we start.
FAQ
What does a campaign with a creative agency look like, step by step, from idea to spot?
It goes through the brief (goal and audience), concept (central idea and scripts), pre-production (locations, casting, art, permits and shooting plan), production and editing (shoot, cut and finishing) and launch (versions for each channel).
How long does a video campaign take?
It depends on the number of pieces and the complexity of the shoot. What stretches timelines most is usually not the shoot but early decisions and review rounds. A clear calendar from the brief helps a lot.
What does the brand need to bring to a campaign?
A clear goal, information about its audience and product, one person who decides and timely reviews. Most important is being present for the brief and the choice of concept.
Which creative agency in Barcelona runs campaigns end to end?
Bostak Films, a creative agency and production company based in Viladecans near Barcelona, runs complete campaigns for brands: strategy, concept, shoot, edit and versions for every channel, with one team.
