Christmas campaign for a brand: ideas, timeline and how to stand out without a big advertiser's budget

Updated October 28, 2026

A Christmas campaign for a brand needs two months of lead time: the idea at the end of October, the shoot in November and publishing from Black Friday to Epiphany on 6 January. It works better with an idea of its own than with the usual clichés, with two or three video pieces and plenty of short clips.

Why Christmas is the hardest campaign of the year

In December everyone advertises at once. The big brands release their Christmas ads, and in Spain every year people talk about the ones from department stores, fashion chains or the national lottery. Social media fills up with lights, trees and families hugging. And the audience, saturated, scrolls past almost all of it.

For a medium or small brand, competing in that noise with the same visual language is a lost cause from the start. You cannot outspend a big chain, but you can have a clearer, quicker and closer idea.

It is still worth it. For many product, fashion, food or gift brands, a very large share of the year's sales falls between Black Friday and Epiphany. A good Christmas campaign does not just sell in December: it leaves behind content, followers and recall for the rest of the year.

It helps to separate two things. This article is about a brand's Christmas campaign to sell to its customers. If you are looking for the video a company uses to send seasonal greetings to its staff, clients and suppliers, we cover that in Christmas video for companies. They are different pieces with different goals.

When to start: the real timeline of a Christmas campaign

The most common mistake is thinking about the Christmas campaign in December. By then it is too late: film crews and agencies are fully booked, deadlines tighten and the campaign arrives when people have already bought much of their gifts.

This is the timeline we work with.

Late October and early November: the idea. Objective, audience, creative concept and map of pieces. This is the moment to decide what you will say and in which formats.

November: production. Pre-production, shoot and post-production. If the campaign uses artificial intelligence or animation, it is worth starting earlier, because it needs more test rounds.

Late November: the kick-off. Black Friday, which in 2026 falls on Friday 27 November, opens the shopping season in Spain. Many brands use that week to launch their campaign or at least a teaser.

December: the bulk of publishing, with the main pieces in the first half of the month and reminders in the second, when shipping deadlines loom.

January: Epiphany and the sales. In Spain the campaign does not end on 25 December but on 6 January, the day of the Three Kings. Pieces for that date and the start of the sales close the cycle.

If you are reading this at the end of October, you are in time. If it is mid-November, it can still be done, with a simpler idea and a leaner production.

Christmas campaign ideas that work

No single idea suits every brand, but some approaches work again and again.

Break the cliché. If everyone shows warm lights and perfect families, you can show the opposite: humour, chaos, the absurd side of the holidays. People appreciate a piece that looks nothing like the twenty others they saw that morning.

A world of your own. Create a small Christmas universe in the brand's look: characters, a set, a story that can stretch across several pieces. That is what we did with Bunker, as we explain below.

The product as the hero. For a product brand, the most effective idea is often the most direct: the product as the gift that solves a problem. Done with wit, without looking like a catalogue.

The people behind the brand. For local businesses, showing the team getting ready for the season, the shop full or the workshop at full tilt gives a closeness no big-chain ad has.

The cause. Some brands dedicate the campaign to a real act of solidarity. It works if the gesture is genuine and part of the brand, not an add-on to look good.

Whatever the approach, the idea has to fit in one sentence and hold up in an ad, a ten-second clip and an Instagram story. To get there, it helps to read what a creative concept is.

Which pieces to produce and for which channels

A Christmas campaign for a mid-sized brand does not need twenty different pieces. It needs a few, well thought out.

One or two ads. A main piece of thirty to sixty seconds that tells the idea, and often a second, more direct one with the offer or the product. We explain it in how to make an advertising spot.

Short versions. Fifteen, ten and six-second cuts for social ads, where people decide within a second whether to stay.

Vertical clips. For Instagram, TikTok and Shorts, in the campaign's look but made for the phone: big text, quick pace, a hook at the start.

Photography. Product within the campaign's world, for the website, online shop listings, emails and signage. Shot on the same day.

In-store pieces. If the brand has a shop, a screen with a loop of the ad, the window and signage with the same image.

Emails and website. The campaign has to look the same in the email your customers receive and on your homepage during those weeks.

Everything comes out of a single production. Planning the pieces before shooting is what makes a Christmas campaign affordable for a brand that is not a multinational.

A real example: Bunker's Christmas, made with AI

Bunker, the anti-theft bag and bum bag brand we have worked with for years, needed a Christmas campaign that would stand out in the end-of-year noise. Its audience is young and urban, and the usual Christmas look did not suit a street brand.

The idea was to mix the world of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory with streetwear: a fantastical universe with fairy-tale characters, absurd humour and the product built into the story rather than tacked on at the end.

Producing that the traditional way, with sets, characters in costume and effects, would have been beyond the brand's reach. We did it by integrating generative artificial intelligence for the characters and settings, with art direction, traditional post-production and an edit with commercial pace. AI made the world possible, and human judgement made it look like a campaign rather than a lab experiment.

The result was two thirty-second ads designed for the social media scroll: one introducing the world and another with the Christmas offer. The campaign drove engagement above the brand's historical average. You can see it in the Bunker Christmas case.

If this route interests you, in AI-generated ads: what works and what does not we explain where it helps and where it does not yet.

How we work on your Christmas campaign

At Bostak Films we are a creative agency and a production company, with a studio in Viladecans, in the Baix Llobregat, twenty minutes from Barcelona. For a Christmas campaign, that means the same team comes up with the idea, shoots or generates it, edits it and delivers every piece, with no middlemen and no dead time, which is when it shows most in November.

The process is short. A first conversation to understand the brand, the season's star product and the audience. A proposal with the concept, the pieces and the calendar. Production in November, in our studio or on location, with AI where it makes sense. And staggered delivery so you have pieces ready for Black Friday, for December and for Epiphany.

We work with brands in Barcelona, the Baix Llobregat and the rest of Spain. See how we work as a creative agency in the Baix Llobregat. FAQ

How do you create a Christmas campaign for a brand?

With two months of lead time: the idea at the end of October, production in November and publishing from Black Friday to 6 January. Choose an idea of your own that breaks with the clichés, produce one or two ads, short versions, vertical clips and photos on the same shoot, and keep the same look on social media, the website, email and in store.

When should you start preparing the Christmas campaign?

At the end of October or early November for the idea, and during November for production. That way you reach Black Friday with pieces ready. If you start in mid-November it is still possible, with a simpler idea and a leaner production.

What ideas work for a Christmas campaign?

Breaking the cliché with humour, creating a small world of your own in the brand's look, presenting the product as the gift that solves something, showing the people behind the brand or supporting a real cause. The idea must fit in one sentence and work in an ad and in a ten-second clip.

Can you make a Christmas campaign with artificial intelligence?

Yes, and it lets you create worlds that would be unaffordable with traditional production. We did it with Bunker: two ads with AI-generated characters and settings, art direction and professional post-production. The key is having human judgement behind it, so it looks like a campaign and not a test.

How long does the Christmas campaign last in Spain?

Until 6 January. In Spain, the Three Kings is as important a gift-buying date as Christmas, and the sales start right after. It is worth having pieces planned for that date and for closing the campaign.

Which agency makes Christmas campaigns in Barcelona and the Baix Llobregat?

At Bostak Films we conceive and produce Christmas campaigns for brands in Barcelona, the Baix Llobregat and the rest of Spain, from the idea to the social media clips, with AI where it makes sense. You can book a free diagnosis on our website.
